Here is a personal testimony from PP Kristine Hill of the Opelika RC the day of the tornado.

PP Kristine Hill Opelika Mar 3

“Can’t even describe the scene at the hospital today. So much hurt, so much devastation. But I was so incredibly proud to stand next to nurses, physicians, directors, managers, kitchen staff, cleaners, and on and on…all of whom were taking care of our community and of each other. There were hugs and tears and sweat and skill poured into every person that walked in the doors of East Alabama Medical Center today. I saw amazing compassion and teamwork that reminds me just how blessed we are. Prayers for all those affected, and especially for our first responders, nurses and physicians who have worked tirelessly to save lives today.”

This afternoon, the Trump Administration declared parts of Alabama a major disaster area and ordered federal aid to supplement state and county recovery efforts in Lee County. Assistance includes grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low cost loans to cover uninsured property damage, as well as programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the disaster. or call 1+800-621-FEMA (3362).

A FEMA expert announced that the tornado that destroyed the Beauregard community traveled approximately 70 miles (110 kilometers) on the ground crossing into neighboring Georgia. Most tornados stay on the ground for a relatively short distance and time. This F4 ranks near the top as to length and severity for Alabama. The 2013 tornado map indicates a strong concentration of tornados in AL, MS and NC. The blue lines are no death resulting. Red line, deaths.

Most of the approximately 200 injured have been released from hospitals at EAMC (60) and the University of Alabama Birmingham (90). Other hospital were also used to include Columbus, GA.
