Eradicating Polio

Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a paralyzing and potentially deadly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5. The virus spreads from person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can then attack the nervous system.

Tuskegee Polio Recognition Project

The Tuskegee Infantile Paralysis Center was the focal point for this treatment and rehabilitation work along with so many dedicated Black physicians and support personnel.

Rotary District 6880 along with supporting local Rotary Clubs have committed to honor and recognize these individuals and facilities by placing a monument in their honor on the grounds of the original Tuskegee Infantile Paralysis Center on the campus of Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama.

Providing Clean Water

We support local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day. We don’t just build wells and walk away. We share our expertise with community leaders and educators to make sure our projects succeed long-term.  Rotary District 6880 Clubs are routinely involved in Global Grant projects providing clean water to those in need.

Saving Mothers and Children

Nearly 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, poor health care, and inadequate sanitation. We expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.

Peacebuilding

Today, over 70 million people are displaced as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations. Half of them are children.

We refuse to accept conflict as a way of life. Rotary projects provide training that fosters understanding and provides communities with the skills to resolve conflicts.

Community Service

We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and create opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old. We also strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

Community Education

More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.

Many of our District 6880 Rotary Clubs are involved in the Rotary Dictionary Project providing dictionaries for third grade students in their communities.

Fighting Hunger

The Rotary Clubs in District 6880 are committed to supporting their communities locally and abroad.  Our Clubs are involved in many feeding initiatives throughout the District by supporting Salvation Army, Red Cross, feeding kitchens, disaster relief feeding, food banks.  District 6880 Rotarians are caring humans who believe in the motto of “Service Above Self.”
